Who can and can not submit?
We welcome submissions by Black folks of any multitude of intersections and hyphenated identities.
When I send monetary support, where does it go?
Any monetary support sent via our platform goes directly to operational and production costs of the press. Your contribution directly supports our Black-owned small business and the Black writers we work with. We sincerely appreciate the outpouring of support fpr the press and thank community for the generous support.
When are you going to launch your first book?
All details pertaining to book launches will be available soon.
What is sonic storytelling?
Sonic storytelling explores narration through dynamic mediums of sound and audio recording.
At Hush Harbour we honour both written and oral traditional storytelling as we know that Black peoples across time have used voice as a means of survival, resistance and futuring. Our definition of a sonic story welcomes linear (think audio-books) and non-linear (think sound art) expressions of story.
This medium includes but is not limited to:
spoken word poetry
archival audio documentation
experimental sonic art
meditations and spell casting and more
What does it mean that you’re a Black Queer Feminist press?
As a collective, we are dedicated to amplifying nuanced stories and acknowledging Black, Queer and Feminist writers and authors.
Black encompasses the diversity of folks of African descent on the continent and within the global diaspora.
Queer encompasses the full spectrum of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
Feminist encompasses the radical womanist politic coined by Alice Walked that centers Black womxn at multiple intersectionalities as described by Kimberlé Crenshaw.
We operate by a praxis ‘beyond binaries and borders’ and encourage all Black folks of any gender, sexuality, nationality, location and citizenship to submit to the press.
